Executive Function Coaching
Although all services are listed separately, they almost always overlap in practice. As every student’s situation is unique, Alison’s approach to working with each student is equally unique based on their needs and goals.
The Goals
Alison has two goals. Her primary goal is to give students the support and guidance they need to create systems that make their lives easier, and guide them on their journey to success and balance.
Students who struggle with executive function challenges often find staying organized difficult, if not impossible, making it especially hard to succeed in a school setting. Being disorganized does not mean students cannot be successful: they just need the guidance to learn systems that work with their strengths.
Alison’s secondary goal is to relieve stress off parents. Constantly monitoring your child’s academics and making sure they are meeting deadlines can be exhausting for both of you; and is typically a large stressor on your relationship. Diverting this aspect onto a neutral third party can make a positive difference in not only your child’s academics, but your relationship with your child.
The Method
Alison has a unique ability to assess what needs to be done and quickly make a plan that will benefit her students immediately and set them on the right path. To do so, Alison works weekly (or sometimes more at first) with students to develop systems that help them create goals, stay organized and ahead of assignments, and balance their personal lives and schoolwork.
Her primary goal in working with students that struggle with executive function is to teach students organizational skills, which is the building block to further success.
She holds her students accountable in nonjudgmental ways that make them feel supported and encouraged no matter what their current standing is. This combination of organizational systems and accountability guides students towards independence and agency that they will need in post-secondary settings, whether that be college, trade school or early work life.
