Academic and Educational Mentorship

Although all services are listed separately, they almost always overlap in practice.  As every student’s situation is unique, Alison’s approach to working with each student is equally unique based on their needs and goals.

The Goal

Alison’s goal is two pronged: one towards student success, one towards reducing parental stress. The first goal is to allow your student to meet - or return to - their full academic potential. She works to help your student first define their goals and then develop a path towards achieving those goals. She wants her students to feel supported, encouraged, and not overwhelmed with schoolwork, while being held accountable. She wants to guide them into a place where they have the skills and methods to balance their academic tasks while maintaining a thriving personal life.

Simultaneously, Alison wants you - the parent - to feel how a third party mentor can lift the stress off of trying to manage your child’s academics and restore your relationship.

The Method

To do so, each student requires a unique plan of action that works to their personal strengths. Alison does not teach content nor tutor; rather, she guides students in developing systems that will help them manage and excel in their academic and personal lives. Specifically, she helps develop organizational and time management skills, teaching students how to break up large workloads into manageable tasks; supporting them in establishing strong critical thinking skills and guiding them to understand their intrinsic motivations and then follow them towards a path to success.

How it Works

Every student is unique in what they need. Alison meets with students as frequently or infrequently as necessary, as determined by each family.

Her approach to mentoring is almost completely student focused: she speaks and works with the student directly, through in-person or online meetings, calls, and check-ins via text. Past clients agree:

“Alison kept us informed at each step while keeping in mind the privacy of the child. She gave my daughter the space she needed, with the structure that was required to get it done in a timely manner.”   -Gabriela Simmons
